Aileen Collis
Aileen is currently studying for a PhD at The University of Manchester. Having graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a degree in Fine Art in 1992, Aileen then went on to work as an assistant conservator in the Paper Conservatin Department at National Museums Liverpool, from 1992-2003. Her work in paper conservation included re-mounting botantical specimens from an historic herbarium, conserving and re-housing an archive of large format photographic negatives, and repairing water damaged historical documents.
In 2003 Aileen left NML to return to full-time education, completing an MA course in surface pattern design at the University of Central Lancashire in 2005. On completing the MA course, Aileen spect two years as artist in residence in Textiles and Paper, part of the School of Materials. The residency was part of the "Setting Up Scheme" supported by the Arts Council England, North West. Her design process begins with photographs, which are manipulated using computer software to create multi-faceted decorative patterns.
