Professional biography
My research has concentrated on solid state phase transformations in metals and minerals. At the present time I am undertaking studies into precipitation hardening in aluminium and magnesium alloys. I am interested in the development of wrought magnesium alloys and am part of a research group in the Materials Science Centre investigating the deformation and recrystallization of magnesium alloys. I have had a long term interest in transmission electron microscopy and, with other colleagues in the School of Materials, have been responsible for the development of the microscope and specimen preparation facilities in Materials Science. I am interested in quantitative thin foil microanalysis in TEM and STEM.
