Professional biography
Liz Barnes is a Lecturer in Product Development at the University of Manchester with expertise in the field of design management and fashion marketing. Most recently her research interests have focused on the concept of 'fast fashion' in relation to supply chain management, fashion promotion and the fashion retail environment. She was guest editor of a 'fast fashion' special edition of the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management and is also on the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal. Liz is Programme Director for the BSc (Hons) Management and Marketing of Fashion Textiles programme and lectures in fashion marketing, fashion merchandising, fashion promotion and product management as well as supervising at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Liz is the author of a key text book 'Understanding Fashion Marketing' due for publication in 2011 as part of the Understanding Fashion Series published by Berg. A UMIST graduate in BSc (Hons) Management and Marketing of Textiles, Liz then undertook a PhD in design management, graduating from the University of Manchester. After completing her PhD she spent some time working in the fashion and retail industry before returning to academia. Liz has held a number of senior posts at higher education institutions in the UK. She holds a PGCE in Higher Education from Manchester Metropolitan University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate of the Textile Institute.
