Professional biography
Nick graduated in 1982 at Manchester Metropolitan University with a
BA (Hons) in Graphic Design with a First Class commendation in Art History. He completed his
post-graduate/graduate studies in Computer Graphics/Science in 1995
at Coventry University. Nick has over 24 years experience of creative practice within the
digital media and design industries, expert knowledge of CAD,
interactive multi-media, and computer graphics. In addition he has an
international & national publishing record and extensive experience of
expert evaluation of ICT, CAD and multi-media research projects for
the European Commission (Framework's 4, 5, & 6). Nick is currently an
External Examiner at the Robert Gordon University,
Aberdeen, Scotland for BDes (Hons) Design for Digital Media, Grays
School of Art and Design and External Examiner: BA (Hons), MA Design,
Multimedia and Graphics, University of Sunderland, School of Arts, Design and Media. Nick is a visiting Professor at University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan,
Italy and the Institut IMAC, Institut du Multimedia et d'Architecture de la
Communication, Paris University II, France. He is currently a Fellow
of the
European Institute of Digital Media Design. Nick is also an Expert
Evaluator and Rapporteur: European Commission, Directorate E, Content
Unit E1 Interfaces: Framework 6 IST research programme. Intellectual
IPR issues within new interface design with product manufacturing.

Prior to his appointment as Lecturer in CAD and Digital Media Design,
Nick was a
Senior Lecturer in Computing and Design from 1992 - 1996 at Salford
University
and from 1996 - 2002, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Manchester
Multimedia Centre and Network at Manchester Metropolitan University.
From 1992 until 2004 Nick was Contributing Editor for MacUser
magazine, Dennis
Publishing, London with 152 articles published (reviews, design
workshops,
master-classes, commentaries and buyers guides for software -
graphics,
electronic publishing, multi-media, CAD - 2D and 3D).
From 1986 until 1991 Nick was contributing Editor for Apple Business
magazine
UK, EMAP Publishing, London, with 46 articles published and a writer
with Hot
International Graphics, Ad's and Shoe magazines UK published by
Creative
Magazines Ltd London with 25 articles published (reviews and
commentaries) from
1995-1997.
From 1997 - 2000 Nick was a Expert Evaluator and ICT research Project
Assessor, European Commission DGXII-AG Science, Research and
Development. 4th and 5th Framework evaluation, CAD, multi-media and
electronic publishing
technologies and Expert Evaluator and ICT research Project Assessor:
European
Commission, DG III.RTD IT Software Systems and Best practice ESPRIT.
In 1997 Nick was awarded the Internationally renowned Stockholm
Challenge Award
by the King of Sweden for Research and Services to the SME ICT
industries in
Europe. In 2000 Nick was made a lifetime Fellow of The European Academy of Digital Media (EADiM).
