Dr Tilak Dias

Since joining UMIST in 1992, Dr Dias has focused his research on creating three dimensionally shaped and seamless fibre assemblies for technical textiles and apparel applications; e.g. medical textiles, electro-conductive textiles, textile composites and fashion knitwear. Due to the major advancements in electronic flat-bed knitting technology over the last two decades, Dr Dias decided to explore this technology to create 3D fibre assemblies. In order to achieve the above objective he has upgraded the knitting machinery base at UMIST and built a team of experts in 3D knitting, mathematical modelling, materials science, electronics and mechanical engineering and software creation.
