Research impact
Much of the Department's research has a significant impact on both society and commerce.
Through our work, and the research undertaken by the wider University, we use our expertise and pioneering spirit to discover, develop and create innovative solutions to the world's biggest problems and transform lives.
An example of this is recent research carried out by The University of Manchester which has enabled Rolls-Royce plc to better predict the performance of the thermal barrier coatings on their jet engine components. The coatings have helped boost engine performance and reduce fuel consumption.
