Our researchers
The metals and corrosion research taking place at Manchester is the largest UK activity dedicated to research on the development, properties, and performance of metals and alloys for demanding environments across all applications.
Our researchers have access to a unique set of facilities to support this work. We work on all classes of metallic materials including:
- steel;
- light alloys;
- zirconium;
- nickel-based alloys.
We bring together unique expertise in physical metallurgy, thermomechanical processing, and corrosion control to work across the entire lifecycle of a metal, from alloy design to performance prediction.
Our work is often carried out in collaboration with others including industry partners and interdisciplinary research centres.
