Welcome to Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Metallic Systems

Advanced Metallic Systems DTC PhDs

Who are we?

Established in 2009 with a £6.3M investment from EPSRC, the CDT in Advanced Metallic Systems aims to address a growing skills gap in metallurgical science and engineering by providing a national doctoral training centre.

The Centre is collaboration between The University of Sheffield and The University of Manchester, involving seven internationally leading research groups in metallic systems and their engineering

What do we do?

We offer an exciting and interdisciplinary approach to postgraduate research training. Our students come from a range of engineering and physical science backgrounds and the interactive taught first year provides everyone with an underpinning knowledge of materials science before embarking on a three year Doctoral level thesis project. This is supplemented by training in professional skills and project placements in industry or research institutes in the UK and overseas.

Applications are open for admission in October 2011.

CDT Open Day

The CDT will hold a series of open days in 2011, providing potential applicants with the opportunity to meet academic staff and learn more about the CDT training programme.
