We are a leading international research school, employing over 60 academic staff, spanning over 10 research areas and hosting two industry-sponsored research centres. We have over 150 research students and 60 postdoctoral students from around the world and coming from a wide range of science and engineering backgrounds. Most of our research students are sponsored by a variety of School, University and industry resources.

We cover the broad spectrum of the materials discipline and in most areas are consistently awarded the highest possible rating of 5* in the UK Research and Assessment Exercise. We provide first-class opportunities and facilities for our students to study specific subjects in-depth to a postgraduate research degree level.
