Festus Fagbemi - MSc Corrosion Control Engineering

Festus Fagbemi completed his BEng in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. He is now in the middle of his MSc in Corrosion Control Engineering at The University of Manchester.

Why did you decide to study the MSc Corrosion Control Engineering?

I chose this course of study because I want to have a better understanding of the effects of corrosion in the oil and gas industries which is the area I want to specialise in, in the future.

What have been the main benefits of this course to you?

The course has not only opened my eyes to the corrosion challenges of oil and gas industries, aerospace, automobile and marine industries, but it has equally prepared me well enough to face those challenges.

I chose to study here because The University of Manchester is a well known university in the world, where standards are maintained and proficient lecturers deliver the best possible teaching.

What have been the main highlights of your time in Manchester?

The main highlight of my time in Manchester was when one of the best lecturers in the world, Professor David Scantlebury (my lecturer), took us to the field to demonstrate how pipelines can be protected cathodically against corrosion, and later took us out for lunch and completed it with a group picture of all my course mates with him at the centre. Oh my God! It was an interesting moment. I enjoyed it.

So, what are your plans for the next couple of years?

Over the next couple of years, my plan is to become a corrosion consultant to many Oil and Gas industries across the globe.

Any final tips or advice for students looking to study a similar subject to you?

My advice for students looking to a similar subject is this – you will have made the best decision of your life choosing a course that will make you a professional, and sought after by the biggest companies in world.
