Materials Performance Centre Partners
The activity is based across the School of Materials and the Nuclear Graphite Research Group in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.
School of Materials
The School of Materials acknowledged as a centre of international excellence and we were awarded a 5* research rating in the last two research assessment exercises (RAE's). This high level of research expertise ensures that the undergraduate teaching is at the cutting edge of materials science and technology.
MACE
The School achieved a 5 rating for the last Research Assessment Exercise. The Nuclear Graphite Research Group (NGRG) is one of a number of research groups in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester. The aim of the Group is to provide independent advice and research into nuclear graphite technology to both national and international nuclear organisations and companies.
Strategic Partnerships
The MPC has established new strategic partnerships with EdF in materials and corrosion, and with British Energy in the areas of graphite, corrosion, residual stress measurement and damage characterisation, fracture mechanics (local approach etc.), creep continuum modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Additional materials research is undertaken for a wide range of organisations within the UK, Europe and overseas including the EPSRC, HSE/NII,MoD, Rolls-Royce, Serco Assurance, TWI, Corus, INSS and Westinghouse.
