Postgraduate taught courses

A postgradute degree can give you an extra edge when it's time to find a job. We want to get your career off to an excellent start, so we have designed our taught Masters courses with graduate employability in mind. 

The content of our courses will ensure that your theoretical knowledge and your understanding of current issues in your area of specialism are backed up by critical and reflective thinking, research techniques, and organisational skills. Through practical sessions and project work we also help you to develop the transferable skills that employers always look for in job applicants. We can provide opportunities to help students from a variety of science, engineering, and management backgrounds meet their ambitions, whether in aerospace, automobiles, defence, security, architecture, retailing, or elsewhere.

The School's postgraduate taught and research courses are academically challenging and forward-thinking, tuned to the needs of tomorrow's world. They are guided by the innovators and managers of top-rank companies. Applicants can choose to take the traditional taught Masters programme or an MSc by Research, which incorporates a longer more in-depth research element:

Taught MSc

  • Six taught units (90 credits)
  • Research dissertation (90 credits)

MSc by Research

  • Three taught units (45 credits)
  • Research dissertation (145 credits)

By working closely with industry, we ensure that our courses are at the forefront of scientific and industry practice and that our graduates are highly sought after and widely employed across a diverse range of industry sectors. These relationships also create opportunities for project placements and industrial experience.
